PET 3640 - Adapted Physical Education

Credit(s): 3
The passing of Public Law 94-142 in 1975 forever changed the way the public school system educates students with disabilities. Various other Federal laws since then have continued to modify the initial impetus of PL 94-142 and seek to change how society in general not only views, but interacts, with various populations of individuals with disabilities. These laws have had far reaching effects on physical education for both individuals with disabilities and their general education peers. This course is designed not only to introduce an appreciation of the needs of individuals with disabilities, but also to train future physical educators with experiences that will help them meet the needs of those individuals in a way that is beneficial to both individual with disabilities and those not labeled as such.
