EDF 3132 - Child & Adolescent Development Credit(s): 3 EDF 3132 critically examines developmental stages and characteristics of individuals from infancy through adolescence with application to learners in educational settings. The course includes the needs of English language learners and students with varying abilities. The major goal is for students to learn to apply theories and research to situations with children in educational settings. The course provides an overview of cognitive development, as well as learning and social development theories, with emphasis on school-age children. Classroom management techniques and characteristics of effective classroom instruction are also taught. Students learn why it is important to consider individual differences and needs in designing curricula, and how to use data to make instructional decisions.
