Classics Minor

TOTAL MINOR HOURS: 17

The interdisciplinary minor is designed to make the study of the ancient world available to students, in a programmatic way, without the requirement of learning Latin or Greek. Students learn about the history, literature, art and culture of antiquity in courses that emphasize the study of primary texts in English translation.

Minor Requirements


The Classics minor requires 17 credit hours, which are divided between language and civilization requirements.

Minor Core (17 Credit Hours)


Language Requirements (8 Credit Hours)


Students are required to take at least two (2) successive courses in a single language, Latin or Ancient Greek (LAT, LNW, GRE, GRW).

Civilization Requirements (9 Credit Hours)


Students are required to take three (3) of the core courses offered by Classics:

GPA Requirements


Minor GPA (all USF courses which are applied to minor requirements): 2.0

Grading Requirements


C- or better to meet major course requirements unless specified elsewhere.

Note:  Some USF courses have higher grade criteria to meet prerequisite knowledge necessary for progression into higher level courses.

Residency Requirements


CAS Minor Academic Residency Requirement: 50% of minor must be completed at USF.

Advising Information


USF students schedule advising appointments online through the USF Archivum Platform.   Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor each semester to discuss course planning, degree progression, and career preparation.
