Art History Minor


The minor in art history consists of 15 credit hours. Students pursuing this minor may study art history from a variety of areas, including but not limited to Greek Art, Roman Art, Ancient Egyptian and Near Eastern Art, Renaissance Art, Islamic Art, and Twentieth Century Art. As a writing discipline, the Minor in Art History develops the student’s critical analysis and communication skills.

Minor Requirements


A minimum of 15 credit hours is required for the minor in art history, in the following distribution.  

•  A maximum of three credit hours in ARH 4800 - Critical Studies in Art History  and ARH 4930 - Art History: Selected Topics  can be applied to the minor.

Total Minor Credit Hours: 15


GPA Requirements


A minimum overall GPA of 2.0 is required for the minor.

Grading Requirements


Students must earn a “C” or better in their minor coursework.

Other Requirements


Studio Art majors (BA/BFA) and Graphic Arts majors may apply Art History courses required for their program toward an Art History minor. Per University guidelines, these students “must complete a minimum of 6 credits and two courses exclusive to the minor that will not count toward the student’s major or other minors. These credits/courses must be completed at USF and must be upper level courses.” Interested students in these programs should consult with their advisor to clarify expectations before declaring an Art History minor.

Advising Information


USF students schedule advising appointments online through USF Archivum Platform.  Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor each semester to discuss course planning, degree progression, and career preparation.
