Examines concepts and applications in ecosystem ecology, such as the history of the ecosystem concept; environmental and biological controls on organic matter production and decomposition; biogeochemical cycling of energy, water, and nutrients among the atmosphere, soils, organisms, and aquatic systems; food web dynamics; ecosystem succession and landscape dynamics; and ecosystem resilience.
