Dance Minor

TOTAL MINOR HOURS: 18

The Dance Minor is designed to provide students with a scope of experiences in dance that include studio technique, creative studio studies and dance studies. The student selecting a Dance Minor should arrange to meet with the academic advisor in dance prior to enrolling for classes.

Dance Minor Requirements


Minor Core: 5 hours


All Dance Minors must complete these courses (5 credit hours):

Minor Studio Technique Requirement: 4 credit hours


All Minors must complete at least 4 credit hours of Studio Technique classes.

More can be taken as electives for the minor. All students can take the Dance Movement Practice courses. Additionally, Dance minors may audition for Upper-Level technique courses. Please visit the Dance website for audition information and application. Note: Many major-level classes are limited access and require an audition for placement into these specific class and instructor approval. Dance Majors have priority in registering for dance classes.

Minor Electives: 9 credit hours


Dance minors should complete at least 9 credit hours of electives, at least 6 hours of which needs to be at the 3000+ level. Many classes require an audition and placement into the class and instructor approval.

GPA Requirements


Students must maintain an overall GPA of 2.0.

Grading Requirement


The student choosing a Dance minor must achieve a grade of C or better in all courses applied to the minor in Dance.

Other Information


The Minor in Dance is an open-access program. No audition is required.

Advising Information


USF students schedule advising appointments online through USF Archivum Platform.  Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor each semester to discuss course planning, degree progression, and career preparation.
