Sociology Minor

Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions. Sociology’s subject matter is diverse, ranging from crime to religion, from the family to the state, from the divisions of race and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture, and from social stability to radical change in whole societies.

Total Minor Credit Hours: 18


Minor Core Credit Hours: 6


Minor Elective Credit Hours: 12


Please note that all Sociology students can take ISS listed electives for Sociology credit in the Major and Minor only.  Any 12 additional credit hours from prefixes SYA, SYD, SYG, SYO, SYP.  Can include but not limited to:

GPA Requirement


A minimum 2.0 grade point average is required for the Minor.

Grading Requirement


Only courses in which a grade of “C-” or better is attained will count toward the minor hours.

Residency Requirements


Nine (9) hours in residency at USF.

Other Requirements


No more than three hours of SYA 4910  - Individual Research and no more than three hours of SYA 4949  - Sociological Internship may count toward the 18 hour minimum.
