Spanish Minor

The Spanish minor provides students with linguistic and cultural competencies that enhance preparation for many disciplines such as business, hospitality management, mass communications, and education as well as pre-law and pre-medicine.

Minor Requirements
The minor in Spanish consists of a minimum of six courses beyond Spanish III (SPN 2200 ) or equivalent: two (2) required courses (6 credit hours) and four (4) upper-level elective courses (12 credit hours).
Total Minor Credit Hours: 18
Minor Core Credit Hours: 6

*Students who place out of Spanish IV may substitute a SPN or SPW course beyond SPN 2201 .
**Native speakers may substitute SPN 2340 Advanced Spanish for Native Speakers I. In the case of highly qualified students, an upper level SPN/SPW course can be substituted.
Minor Elective Credit Hours: 12
Select 12 hours of SPN, SPW courses at 3000, 4000 level. (One SPT prefix course may be taken as part of the 12 hours.)
Students must complete a minimum of six (6) credits and two (2) courses exclusive to the minor that will not count toward the student’s major or other minors. These credits/courses must be completed at USF.
GPA Requirement
A GPA of 2.0 or better in the minor is required for certification.
Grading Requirement
All coursework completed for the Spanish Minor must have a grade of “C” or better to satisfy program requirements. Each minor course must be taken for a letter grade. No course may be taken Pass/Fail.
Residency Requirements
CAS Minor Academic Residency Requirement: 50% of minor must be completed at USF.
